editor@synapsis.net |
| As founder of SilverThread Productions,
Matt created Synapsis for several reasons. Having been given his start in writing as a
journalist for a small, but nationally distributed A&E magazine, and then an
ever-growing series of online industry trade publications, Matt had a fond idea for
combining the two into a unique and successful digital magazine - where he could combine
all of his interests: writing, photography, graphic design, music and computers - while
covering the local A&E scenes that need supporting and make life so much more
enjoyable here in the Midwest. One
year after its premiere in Manhattan, KS, Synapsis expanded to cover Lawrence,
Topeka & Kansas City as well. It has since become a widely-read and respected
contribution to the local arts & entertainment scene and remains a mainstay of
SilverThread Productions' service to the community and a labor of love for Matt and all of
the following contributors... |

| Aaron Weber |
- Assistant Editor
- Assistant Webmaster
- Music Staff Writer
|
|

aaron@synapsis.net |
| If you are at
all familiar with the local music scene, you're probably familiar with his name. Aaron has already done a great deal for local music
- serving as a webmaster, graphic designer, and manager for several local and regional
bands. He has also lent his talent for objective and knowledgeable scene reporting to both
Synapsis and The Zone.
In addition to working with several local
bands, Aaron also provided the writing for the hot new phenomenon, Jonni Nitro - which has
since been signed by Top Cow comics and can be seen on their Eruptor entertainment site.
His talents as a writer, editor, graphic
designer and webmaster made him the perfect choice for this role, where he'll be helping
Synapsis stay on top of this incredibly busy scene. |
|
|

jason@synapsis.net |
| Jason Meier has been going to
local music shows in Lawrence for many years, and joining the Synapsis staff seemed like
the next logical step - both as a way to give something back to the music scene he's
enjoyed for so long, and to get one step closer to the action. But Jason is no stranger to the stage himself - having played drums &
percussion in several local bands since his early high-school days. He is currently taking
a break from his Music Education studies at KU, and is spending his time working with
Synapsis to support the local music scene and his addiction to great local music.
Jason's role as Music Editor keeps him very busy
and at all the best shows - but he always seems to have time to talk, so when you see him
at the shows, feel free to stop him and say hi. |
|
|

jacque@synapsis.net |
| Jacque found her
way into writing for Synapsis when she ran into Matt at a Bottleneck show in Lawrence.
What started as a "So, what do you do?" conversation ended up with a new
addition to the staff. She's already proven herself a strong addition to our cause... and
the only one who can probably compete with Jason for most shows attended. Jacque is a real asset to what we do here at
Synapsis, and is definitely one of the hardest working people we know. Between 40+ hours
at her 'day job' and a full load of college, she manages to find time to contribute to
Synapsis - for which we are very thankful.
Jacque will spend most of her time on the
local music front - especially in Lawrence. You'll see her at the shows - so stop her ask
her how to get involved. |

| Greg Franklin |
- Music Staff Writer
- Cinema Staff Writer
|
|

greg@synapsis.net |
| Greg is legendary around here
for his involvement in local favorites, The
Believe It Or Nots, who sadly played their last show together at the '99 Spirit Fest. He is also well known for his coverage of the music scene in the
widely-read Pitch Weekly, where he
continues to contribute to the local music scene.
And now, he's added his considerable talent and knowledge
to our staff here at Synapsis, where we hope to drag as much opinion, information and news
out of him as possible - all for your reading pleasure. |
|
| Joe Fortunato |
- Visual Arts Editor
- Assistant Webmaster
- Music Staff Writer
|
|

joe@synapsis.net |
| As one of the founding members
of our other favorite online local music website, The Zone, Joe has had our respect from day one as someone who
genuinely cares about the local music scene and for doing something noble to help improve
it. Currently, as a member of the band Avondale, he has a vested
interest in seeing the local music scene thrive. But you've probably noticed that his job
titles aren't just with our music department... though you will definitely see his hand in
our music coverage as well.
No, Joe is also a very talented artist in his own right,
and has agreed to take on the position of Visual Arts Editor. We are thankful for his time
and talents, and look forward to bringing you the very best our regional artists have to
offer in both review, interview, feature and of course, our Virtual Art Gallery. |
|
| John Pickle |
- Visual Arts Staff Writer
- Digital Comic Book Artist
|
|

john@synapsis.net |
| A graduate of
KSU's Fine Arts program and a survivor of the Kansas City Arts Institute, John joined the
Synapsis team after his KSU Bachellor of Fine Arts Exhibit, which earned him a room in
Synapsis' ever-growing Virtual Art Gallery, where his works
have been immortalized in digital ink. John started with Synapsis as our esteemed Visual Arts Editor. However,
since that time, he has achieved a great deal of success with his 'day-job' as owner and
operator of Manhattan's finest gaming and comics establishment, The Gamer, which now
monopolizes much of this time.
Thankfully, he still works with us on
occassion, providing a look at Manhattan's art scene and working to realize one of our
biggest and most ambitious projects to date: a locally created and über-cool digital
comic book.
John remains on our staff as a contributing
writer, artist and as one of our eyes and ears in the local art scene. |
|
| Nick Spacek |
- Literature Editor
- Music Staff Writer
- Cinema Staff Writer
|
|

nick@synapsis.net |
| As the creator
of Nuthouse Productions,
Nick had already done a great deal for the local music and literature scenes before he
ever joined Synapsis. And now he manages to find time for both! Well, to put it more
accurately, once we got a sample of his help, we didn't want to let him go. While Nick certainly does a lot for the music scene
with Synapsis, he'll also be helping us to get our literature department together as well
as its editor - giving that portion of Synapsis a personality and focus that it has been
sorely lacking.
Recently, Nick also started putting his
writing talents to use in yet another publication - American Upstart. Keep an eye out for
it in print at better record stores, and check out their website. |
|
| Cecilia Rocha |
- Literature Staff Writer
- Cinema Staff Writer
|
|

cecilia@synapsis.net |
| Cecilia is a
prime example of what this scene needs more of - people who, regardless of background or
experience, have a sincere desire to do something good for the scene they enjoy. Cecilia is doing her part to improve the scene we
have - and her motivation and willingness to try should be a lesson to us all. We
appreciate her efforts and we expect great things from her as our literature and cinema
deparments take flight. |
|
|

colin@synapsis.net |
| Most widely known as a lead
singer and guitarist for Brothers From
Different Mothers, Colin is also becoming increasingly known in the local music scene
for his skill with a camera. You will begin seeing
more and more of his photos in the digital 'pages' of Synapsis very soon. You can also
check out his online photography
portfolio to see more of his excellent work with some of his personal favorite local
bands.
With his great eye for detail and unique style, Colin adds
further variety and value to the content we provide here at Synapsis. |
