03.10.2001 - Panel Discussion
We Sold Our Souls For Rock N Roll
Just attended a panel discussion with Penelope Spheeris
where she discussed the making of the film We Sold Our Souls For Rock n Roll.
It was a feat of endurance and was shot completely in digital format. Many of the
processes involved are so cutting edge major studios won't even consider them. Much
of the backstage and interview footage was shot on miniDV - yeah!!! A camera just like you
can buy at any good video store; most of the concert footage was shot on HD (High
Definition) equipment. The sound was a real challenge, but using off-camera microphones
and off-camera DAT recorders later syncronized with the HD and DV footage solved the sound
problem.
The HD and DV footage was transfered to film for projection
on the big screen. By the way, we are going to the world premiere of the film
tomorrow at the Paramont Theater in Austin. Word on the street is that Ozzy and
Sharon Osbourne are going to join the filmmaker at the premiere.
The clip shown at the panel screening shows awesome footage
and promises to be a fantastic look at the world of Ozzy and the Ozzfest Tour.
For now,
